the destructive forces of nature
Nature, though beautiful, can be destructive.
Indonesia is located in the Pacific Ring of Fire. The extreme tectonic activity causes Indonesia to experience many natural catastrophes, such as Earthquakes, Tsunamis, Volcano eruptions, Hurricanes and Floods.
On top of the deaths of hundreds of thousands of humans and animals, these natural disasters can potentially cause serious damage to property and hinder economic development, which consequently results in significant financial loss for the people. These natural disasters also create more burden on the national budget to finance post-disaster rehabilitation, and repair damaged infrastructure. In addition, Indonesia's notoriously weak infrastructure, brought on by mismanagement, lack of skills or corruption, further aggravates the situation.
The increase of natural disasters causes the number of people living in poverty to skyrocket. Due to the increased prices of goods (caused by shortage), many families struggle to make ends meet, and are pulled deeper into the abyss of financial doom. Not only is it financially crippling , natural disasters are also psychologically horrifying. The shock due to natural calamities can create a very real terror.
